Acquris 100W LED

Background h3> LED is the abbreviation for Light Emitting Diode or simply LED. It was a Russian named Oleg Vladimirovich Loseva, in 1920, who came up with the technology behind LED. However, it took until 1962 before the LED could shine with visible light and thus became practical as electronic component. New research has added durability, reduced power consumption and increased brightness alot in recent years. In the current situation, there are LED lights ranging from ultraviolet (UV) across the visible spectrum to infrared (IR). The advantage of LED is that the light is relatively monochromatic, or one-colored. Therefore, there are red, blue, green, yellow, LEDs, etc.. In recent years, also white LED taken off. The technology behind the creation of white LEDs is not easy because white light is composed of all colors. In other words, a white LED goes against the LED fundamental nature. However, there are several ways to solve this. Previously, it relies on the use of several diodes in red, green and blue and mix them. Thus obtained white light, but depending on whitch of LED chips that shines strongest, this light-usually have a small hue. In order to achieve a "normal" white LEDs which do not use several LED so it is normal to use a Blue/UV LEDs which are coated with a fluorescent powder. This powder converts the blue/UV light into white light and, depending on the composition have different white tones, from warm-white light of 3500-4000K to cool white 5000-7000K to "super cool white" with 7000-9000K. "K" is the abbreviation for Kelvin, and describes the color temperature of white light. A summer day, the "color of the light is usually around 5000K, a moon lit night around 4000K and a winter day with sparkling snow may be have a color temperature of 9000K or even higher.
As far as brightness the has "light effect" per used energy unit (W), called Lumen / watt (abbreviated as Lm / W), increased dramatically. Having previously only been a modest fractions of 1 lm/W is at the moment more than 100 lm/W in the high-efficiency LEDs. Furthermore the life span has increased significantly, a good high-efficiency LED last at least 50.000 hours, which represents nearly 6 years of continuous operation. In addition, is don't diminish the light with more than a few percent per year. If the LED is running at 90% of its capacity and not allowed to overheat, the life span be increased to double.
What happens now? h3> One of the major discussion topics are on an LED can replace a normal light bulb, which has become very topical, since the EU decided to ban sale of incandescent light. In general, incandescent light have a "warmer" light, which can hardly be debated when only about 30% of the incandescent lamp is used for producing light, the rest becomes heat. People generally thinks that the light from a fluorescent light is too cold. In addition, fluorescent have the disadvantage of contain some mercury, which makes it important to take special environmental considerations into account when these lamps are discarded. LED lacks both of these drawbacks. As described earlier, a white LED is available with optional color temperature. A warm white LEDs are very close to the light from a halogen lamp, but draws only a fraction of the energy. A normal light bulb in a ceiling light draws 60W and lasts for about 1000 hours which is equivalent to about 6-7 months if the lamp is lit, 5 hours per day. Energy consumption is for this lamp is approximately 110kW/year. A white LED with the same brightness and color temperature use around 5W and lasts for about 50.000 hours, which represents over 27 years if it is on 5 hours per day. The total energy is thus approximately 9kW/år, thus saving the environment and also reduce the energy bill with about 85%. Generally, it is customary to conservatively expect a saving of about 80%.
Acquris is therefore in an active process of replacing all our incandescent and fluorescent lighting to environmentally friendly LED technology, a job that is scheduled for completion by 2010. We have our good contacts in China, very good collaborations with various producers of both LED replacement lamps and the producers of LEDs. This allows us to offer LED lights that fit in both normal fixtures and light fittings. Furthermore, through our cooperation with LED factories, can we develop LEDs for our own projects. Firstly, we have a new 100W LED (see below) and a unique 12W LED with "all" colors (Red, Green, Blue and cold white). This we plan to use for our next generation Blinder and Stage Wash. According to our calculations, it will provide between 45000 55000Lm.
Acquris first 100W LED h3> For a special project, we have developed a cold white (6000-7000K) 100W LED. With an impressive brightness of 6500Lm is a big source of light. In our lab we measured up 2300Lux of one meter, and given that the radiation angle is 90 ° luminance is very impressive.
Since no one has so far managed to produce a homogeneous 100W diode for even a theoretical fair price, we also have "cheated" a bit. Using 100 pieces 1W LED, placed in a special capsule and connected 10 and 10, we have developed this power piece. Therefore, the drive is a bit special. The supply voltage is 30-34V and current is 3.5 A. The total energy is thus 105W. The efficiency is thus 65 Lumen / Watt. However, developing this piece a lot of heat in proportion to its size, which must be cooled off so that a proper heat sink with a fan is required. In the picture we have due to photo technical reasons, pulled down power to about 70%. Otherwise, nothing else visible but the LED. An extensive measurement program is waiting and we calculate a luminaire prototype ready by the the second quater of 2010.
