PTZ cameras have many advantages compared to ordinary surveillance cameras. One of the major differences is found already in the name PTZ, a abbreviation for Panning, Tilt of the lens and Zoom.
This means that the camera remotely can be controlled where to be aimed and what to see.

The most common way of controlling a PTZ camera is either via a DVR with PTZ control or via a advance control desk, often with a joystick for the special PTZ functions.
